Based on the best-selling children’s novel of the same name written by Walter Farley, this is the tale of a young boy who develops a strong kinship with a wild Arabian stallion after they are shipwrecked and stranded on an island. Soon after they are rescued, they enter into a horse racing competition with the help of Henry, played by Mickey Rooney, who received an Academy Award nomination for his supporting role as a retired racehorse jockey. The film also received an Academy Award nomination for Film Editing by Robert Dalva, and Alan Splet received a Special Achievement Award for his sound editing work on the film.
