Bilingual Story-time & Music. We foster children's love for language, culture & arts as we present Spanish & Latin culture through music, stories, and FUN! We offer pre-recorded virtual shows, as well as live virtual interactive shows, and in-person shows. We also offer writing & storytelling workshops for children and workshops for parents. Students as young a preschool age sing, guess riddles, dance with props, and learn numbers, names of food, & learn about animals, as well as body parts and action words, and they get to enjoy Latin-American traditional stories while being entertained as they learn through our interactive approach.

BILINGUAL STORY-TIME & MUSIC OVERVIEW

Enjoy a unique bilingual (Spanish/English) storytelling and music virtual show. A fun immersion in the Latin-American culture. Let music and rhythm be your translators! Sing, play, guess riddles, and dance using easy home props and imaginary objects. You will also enjoy learning about traditional instruments from Latin-America.

Our fun bilingual approach introduces children to Spanish in a creative way. In our programs children will learn the following concepts:

Enjoy children’s favorite songs, games, rhymes, riddles and stories from both Latin America and the US. This is the first of a 2-part video series showcasing the work of four bilingual teaching artists who serenade with their talent both cultures. Children will discover in a playful way the connections between both languages. Adivinanzas, riddles, canciones, songs, juegos dramáticos, drama games, canciones de cuna, lullabies, and tradiciones, traditions, will take you across the unforgettable bridge.

1, 2, 3 Animales ~ 1, 2, 3 Animals

Have you ever seen a mouse barking like a dog, the very hungry caterpillar jumping and running in your arms, and monkeys dancing salsa? No? Well, join Criss Cross Mangosauce in an adventure via the virtual show “1, 2, 3 Animales” and learn to count in Spanish among other language skills.

 

Don’t be afraid, here comes the wolf ~ No tengas miedo, aquí llegó el lobo

In this show, children will play a traditional game called “Let’s Playing in the Forest” with our friendly wolf, Señor Lobo. Using scarves, you will sing and learn colors with the Chameleon Frog story. Play in a bilingual way our finger game “Five little mice” and sing along with your new friends, the mice, los ratoncitos. Play hide and seek while enjoying learning Spanish with real folklore.

 

Arroz con pollo and rice pudding...Yummy

Whether you like rice pudding or chocolate, in this show, you will enjoy it all while you learn how to name foods in Spanish. Name your favorite recipe and pretend to cook arroz con pollo (chicken with rice). This immersive show features the story Mamá Provi and the Pot of Rice, by Silvia Rosa Casanova, but this time all of us will learn step by step how to cook a huge pot of arroz con pollo, while singing and dancing in English and Spanish.

Have you heard about the little bird Carmelo who can be found flying on top of the Andes Mountain? In this program children will have the opportunity to learn about the story of Carmelo and his friends. We will discover what happen to Carmelo and why he is today the fastest bird of the whole world. Travel to Spain and learn to dance Flamenco with our Flamenco 101 bilingual song Con mi dedito, and sing traditional songs, chants and riddles from the oral traditions in Latin-America.

VIRTUAL EVENT OPTIONS • PRE-RECORDED SHOW: (35 Minutes)

  • Facebook or YouTube Premier: Schedule a date and time that works for your community to publish one of our pre-recorded shows in your library’s Facebook or YouTube page. Each show comes with a digital teaching guide (PDF) including extended at home activities and book recommendations that families can use to practice the concepts learned during the shows.

 

  • In Zoom: Schedule your own Zoom session on a date and time that works for your community. Once the audience joins your session, welcome them to your program, introduce them to your library’s multicultural resources and then screen-share our show from your computer with your audience.

 

LIVE VIRTUAL INTERACTIVE SHOW:  (1 hour)

During our live virtual interactive shows, your community will connect with Criss Cross Mangosauce via a private Zoom session. The session will be scheduled by the library on the day and time of our mutual agreement (for up to 50 participants). The library is responsible for sharing the meeting ID and password with each registered participant so that they can join the session (for safety purposes). Once the program is over, we will share a link of the recorded session with the library.

 

CHILDREN WRITING AND STORYTELLING WORKSHOP:

  • Oceans of Possibilities with the author Irania Macias Reymann

In this workshop bilingual children's author Irania Macias will share how the ocean and waterfalls of South America inspired her to become a bilingual writer. She will read segments from her three bilingual books: Chipi Chipis Small Shells of the Sea, Wings and Dream and the Fragrance of Water, guiding the audience to identify their own ocean of possibilities. Children will use sensory memory integration and bilingual tips to write and illustrate their own stories.

 

WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS (IN SPANISH, IN ENGLISH OR BILINGUAL) OVERVIEW

Nuestros Pueblos (Our Towns) will help parents recover their cultural heritage by rekindling their memories of oral traditions, such as childhood songs, folktales, poems, and more, and bringing them to life in a manner that they can easily share with their own children. This workshop will increase the awareness of authentic Latino poetry, folklore, music and storytelling, connecting diverse communities culturally through the performing arts.

 

 

VIRTUAL DELIVERY

  • Maximum capacity: 25 participants
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Zoom Platform: We use Zoom to deliver these workshops. The session will be scheduled by the library on the day and time of our mutual agreement (for up to 25 participants). IN PERSON SHOWS
