Rancho Los Alamitos

Rancho Los Alamitos is a microcosm of the regional story. In the intersecting lives of native people, owners and workers who once called this place home and transformed its land is the richness, drama and complexity of California’s legacy. The Nieto family built an adobe on a hilltop near the location of Povuu'nga sometime between 1800-1834. The adobe was probably used to house the rancho vaqueros and horses since the family never lived here. The hilltop location had a good view and rain drained off the adobe, but the most valuable resource of all was the fresh-water spring right below the hill.
